vegitation

Savannas are characterized by a continuous cover of perennial grasses, often 3 to 6 feet tall at maturity. They may or may not also have an open canopy of drought-resistant, fire-resistant, or browse-resistant trees, or they may have an open shrub layer. Distinction is made between tree or woodland savanna, park savanna, shrub savanna and grass savanna. Furthermore, savannas may be distinguished according to the dominant taxon in the tree layer , palm savannas, pine savannas, and acacia savannas.

meercat classification

The meerkat or suricate is a small mammal and a member of the mongoose family. It inhabits all parts of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana and South Africa. A group of meerkats is called a "mob", "gang" or "clan". A meerkat clan often contains about 20 meerkats at a time, but some super families have had 50 or more. Meerkats have an average life span of 12-14 years. PHYLUM: Chordata CLASS: mammalia ORDER: Carnivora FAMILY: Viverridae GENUS: Suricata SPECIES: suricatta.

tropical savana

A savanna is a rolling grassland scattered with shrubs and isolated trees, which can be found between a tropical rainforest and desert biome. Not enough rain falls on a savanna to support forests. Savannas are also known as tropical grasslands. They are found in a wide band on either side of the equator on the edges of tropical rainforests. The African savanna teems with hoofed mammals, such as gazelles, antelopes, and buffalo. Hoofed mammals, or ungulates, range nearly worldwide, and the majority of large mammals that live on the ground are ungulates. All ungulates have hooves designed for fast movement, and their digestive systems have adapted to feeding on large quantities of relatively non-nutritious vegetation, like grasses, leaves, flowers, seeds, and tree fruits.
